Proves CNY is Hardcore (And Crazy!)By Lisa McNab, RetroRock Reporter & Photographer
BREWERTON, NY—Forget your delicate holiday ballads; this past Sunday, Central New York demonstrated its true hardcore spirit by diving headfirst into the icy waters of Oneida Lake. It was the annual “Freezin’ for a Reason” Polar Plunge, and it was loud, fast, and completely unhinged—just the way we like our rock and roll.
This wasn’t your grandpa’s quiet charity event. This was a rock concert for the insane, dedicated to raising essential funds for the Special Olympics New York.
The Lineup: Cold and CostumedThe air was sharp, snow dusted the ground, and the water was a frigid bath of slush and floating ice chunks. But the chill was no match for the costumed warriors turning out for a worthy cause.
The scene was pure mayhem:

united by the chill and the massive American flag flying high from the fire department ladder truck.
The Main Act: A crowd of hundreds gathered,

The Aftermath: The Special Olympics banner served as the backdrop for the post-plunge adrenaline rush—a true testament to the courage of those who braved the freeze. Even the massive inflatable polar bear, rocking sunglasses, seemed to be judging the rest of us warm spectators.
In a world drowning in soft Christmas jingles, these plungers proved that CNY still has the grit and the punch we demand in our music. They weren’t just splashing around; they were sacrificing comfort for an incredible cause, channeling the true spirit of rock and roll toughness.
If you weren’t there to witness this epic display of commitment, hit the Special Olympics New York site and donate. Because if they can dive into Oneida Lake in December, you can certainly hit your donation goal.
