Rhett Butler / Program Director

Rhett Butler shows

Rhett started his broadcast career in Jackson Tennessee at WKBJ AM (Milan) as a board op on Saturday AM drive, and engineer for Casey Kasem’s American Top 40 on Sundays. Within 2 months he was “Promoted” to overnights on the am jams sister FM station “The Nu 92 FM” (WYNU). He moved back to Memphis keeping his overnight gig and picked up Weekend overnights at Rock 103 (WZXR). HE considers his first “Big Time” gig in the Biz as the first job that made him move and accept; 99.5 KRIX Brownsville TX. He also began working in the Rio Grande Valleys high-energy dance Station (KRGV/KRGE) as the “Z-Man”.

When he moved to the Monterey Bay Area in California he was again in the right place at the right time, because the local classical radio station flipped from KBACH (KBOQ) to K-ROCK 103.9 (KRQC), where he landed his first F/T Morning Drive shift and kept it while commuting to the University of the Pacific in Stockton. It was at UOP he met Darren McGavin, Ralph Guild, and Jon Crabbe (all UOP Alums), as they recognized his commercial broadcasting experience as well as a natural real-world business style, they handed him the task of building a new campus radio station of, by, and for the students. He built KPAC – ” The Runaway Radio Station” that is now currently “The Roar of the Pacific” and the next semester created KPAC-TV as well.
